I use both. Anything to keep spam at Bay. These catch hundreds of spam comments a day on my sites. And still, I delete a dozen or so spam comments a day that get through.

At no time, either prior to or after my use of Wordpress did it ever email me if I had a comment. But, I was self hosted for a long time and my ISP disabled automated email from my Apache server so Wordpress may have that function and I've never used it.

As for disqus, go to the 'Notifications; tab in your Disqus profile page here:

http://www.disqus.com/account/notifications/

and check the box that says: "Enable Send me Notifications" to the first option that reads:

Email notifications are sent when comments are posted on discussions that matter to you.

Then check the box below that that says:

- notify me of replies to my comments.

Beyond that, if that doesn't get them going for you, futz around with the settings and contact Disqus. They've always worked for me. But I'm also a one-man bloger - not sure how it would work in a multi-blogger site

That's the complete opposite of the experience I'm having. Wordpress used to send out comment notifications to my authors, and now only I get them. Is there a setting in DISQUS to make sure my authors get notifications? Or do I have a bizarro blog?

I don't understand your problem Gordon. Wordpress doesn't send out notifications to the post author if someone comments on the post, Disqus does – when you have Disqus enabled. If that is not working for you you might want to fiddle with your Disqus options and/or contact their support people.

Hi, I've got DISQUS on my site now, and Wordpress has stopped sending out notifications to the post authors when someone comments on their post. This means the discussion never starts. I can't find a setting for this. Do I need to add a plugin to this plugin to do that? Any ideas?

If your users have gravatars and leave comments outside of disqus on your blog I believe that, yes, their gravatars will stlil show up in their comments if you have your blog setup that way.

If your asking if Disqus works with 2.8 and up, the answer is emphatically yes. I always keep current with the latest version of Disqus and you are using it here. So, yes its working.

If my instructions still work with 2.8, I would presume that there are minor differences by now in the actual process though much of it should still be the same. I haven't installed disqus since 2.7 because I haven't needed to. It continues to work with the new versions of Wordpress as I update.

If you do try to follow my instructions above with a higher version and it works, or doesn't, please report back here so others can learn from your experience. If there are any sections above that absolutely are wrong now I would appreciate that heads-up in a footers so others can know too.
